The Staff

"Staff are of high quality and meet the needs of children and pupils very well."  Ofsted Inspection Report

The success of any school depends upon the level of staff commitment.  The staff team consists of everyone associated with your child, not only the class teacher or the care worker, but everyone.

The staff aim is to provide a structured and caring environment for all.  This helps to create stability and security for the young people in our care.  We pay great attention to the pupils' emotional growth, as stated in the Gosden Charter, as well as providing for their academic needs.  Social awareness is promoted by the school environment and ethos, which gives the pupils the opportunity to make friends and interact within the social context.  This is particularly important for our children, as their individual needs may previously have set them apart within a mainstream setting

Therapy

The work of the teacher and care worker is supported by Speech, Occupational, Music Therapists and Physiotherapists.  The educational Psychologist, Teachers for the Deaf and Visually impaired are available for consultation, as are various medical and social work agencies.

Language

Gosden House is now educating increasing numbers of pupils with a wide range of communication difficulties.  The children have access to Specialist teaching by staff trained to teach children with speech and language disorders.  The school has developed a "language impairment" training package to support all staff and speech therapists work with teachers to develop expertise.

"Children and pupils with communication difficulties make good progress overall.  Through high quality teaching and the work of speech and language therapists, they improve their speaking and listening skills."  Ofsted Inspection Report.

The Governors select staff for their integrity, professionalism and warmth.  They are trained to plan and organise ahead, they give freely of their time and energy.

The child remains central to all activities.  Staff generate enthusiasm and motivate the students in their care to achieve maximum potential.  They enjoy the work; our students are special.  When they achieve, the whole community celebrates.

The staff are willing to listen and take pleasure in speaking with children.  The workforce at Gosden has worked together for many years.  Staff turnover is very small.  This allows our pupils to get to know their class and subject teachers and feel confident in the positive relationship that the ethos is working towards..

The Gosden Charter develops common understanding and identification of needs.  We believe children need boundaries, structures and systems in which to operate and understand the expectations of those around them.  The commitment of all teachers is to deliver their lessons as planned and with clear structure and focus taking into account the individual needs of the children through differentiation and the use of Individual Education Plans.
