The Arts at Gosden

Navigation

Arts header

The Arts are a key aspect of Gosden’s offer. We know that engagement in creative activity promotes collaboration and problem solving skills, offers opportunity for expression and communication, and increases self-confidence in many areas. Our approach is holistic and we build creative arts into the delivery of learning in many ways as well through the Creative and Curious curriculum.

Arts Award is part of our Key Stage 4 vocational offer, and all classes have art and music lessons.

Trudy is our resident artist. She works with pupils throughout the school to create meaningful and beautiful art. You can view some of this at local exhibitions.

Art Venture have a satellite at Gosden, and they run a group for adults with additional needs every Monday. Gosden and ArtVenture work collaboratively here at Gosden and sometimes out in the community.

Charlotte teaches dance, and she also offers a holiday dance club if you’d like to join https://www.infinityperformers.com

Gosden have been working with Stopgap for many years, and our learners sometimes participate in weekend holiday activities.

We also love working with Synergy dance, which has been kindly supported by Happy Days.

We very much appreciate the expertise of one of our Governors,  Linda Jasper MBE – a big noise in the Dance world!

Vicky is our Music teacher. She teaches Music to all classes and also works with teachers to help them to embed Music into their teaching.     We also have a school choir, run by Marion. We love to welcome Rocksteady to Gosden every year, to get our air guitar and vocals going.

Drama and the performing arts is fundamental to our curriculum, as it is an important way to learn about history, literature and PSHE. We invite Peer Productions into Gosden to help us with our PSHE and RSE in Secondary, and we are delighted that this organisation are providing employment for some of our graduates!

As well as just being fabulous to watch and participate in, theatre offers employment opportunities for the future. We work closely with our partners at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre. We want to say thank you to the YAT for working with us both at the theatre and here on site, and also our local patrons for funding a trip for the whole school to the pantomime every year. This truly is a highlight of our year.

We are lucky to have Elise Carman as our Drama Teacher.

How to support the Arts at Gosden

We are immensely grateful to our local artistic community, who support and promote our young artists.

If you would like to support us, you can visit our Wonderful donation page   or contact Rebecca Smale, Head teacher, at school.
